Astor Milan Salcedo, Spanish-born artist of Colombian descent, Painter, photographer, documentary filmmaker, and storyteller Astor Milan Salcedo is informed by his interest in historical and political events, nature, music, and culture. Salcedo tirelessly strives to balance body, mind, and spirit. His art is emblematic of this quest. He initially explored photography and documentary filmmaking as forms of his artistic expression,His current work incorporates this way of viewing the world around him in colors and textures. They are pictorial stitches in time, chronicles of life, sentimental ballads. While oil paint is his media of choice, the surfaces he applies them to are diverse: they include everything from traditional primed canvases to overpainted photographs and further to the resilience of paper. This range is broadened by his personal favorites, unprimed canvases and especially raw linen, which give his visual documentaries a natural sensuality. Techniques include layering and the opulent use of color to create complex stories of great visual depth. A contemporary take on Abstract Expressionism, they bear similarities to the works of Gerhard Richter, Vija Celmins, Katy Moran and Jack Whitten. Astor Salcedo tirelessly pursues an existential equilibrium of the physical, mental and spiritual. His art is emblematic of this personal quest and his works present evidence of the human struggle in those moments when this balance is out of sync.
Astor’s work consistently articulates an inherently watchful interest in historical and political events and takes its inspiration from nature, music and the people and places he encounters on his journeys.
Expressionist and tactile: His work is frequently abstract and characterized by a rich, tactile surface with thick impasto sections that create a sense of texture and depth. Salcedo uses opulent color and layered techniques to create visual narratives with profound depth.

By Rigoberto Mena
Located in Surfside, FL
"Grey".
Oil/Acrylic on Canvas. Signature lower right
Image: 39.5" x 39.5". Framed: 41" x 41".
Rigoberto Mena Santana (Cuban, born 1961) was born in Artemisia, Havana in 1961, where he currently lives and works. He attended the Instituto Politecnico de Diseno Industrial, La Habana, and continued his studies at San Alejandro Fine Art Academy, Havana. He traveled extensively throughout Europe to study the great masters. Mena has had Solo Exhibitions in China, Germany, Netherlands, Mexico, Cuba, Spain, France, and Holland, and in the U.S. in Miami, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C, and California. Following the inauguration of his exhibition “Hablando en Lenguas”. In 2011, Rigoberto’s work was chosen to be a part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Fine Art in Havana, Cuba. Through the eyes of an abstract expressionist, he draws inspiration from his home’s urban landscapes and the spirit of the people and the city. The start of the Cuban Abstract movement was through a group called Los Once or The eleven. Though Mena was not an original member the influence by this new outlet began to spread ideals that put his own practice into fashion. Rigoberto is considered an important painter of his generation. He is one of the few artists in Cuba who has to have a private art gallery. Mena's private gallery at the Plaza de Armas is adjacent to the neighboring government art gallery. His work has been exhibited in Mexico, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, and Holland.
Contemporaneous with the controversial, "La Generacion de los 80s" - The 80s Generation of Contemporary Cuban Art also referred to as New Cuban Art. This new Cuban plastic arts movement, with an expression of conceptual and non specific conscience manifestation, addressed many burning issues of the time and unveiled what these artists felt was the true reality of Cuba. It was more than a moment of artistic inspiration; it was a reflection of critical self-awareness and the new social role of art - the fundamental essence of the movement. They included Rubén Torres Llorca, Jose Bedia Valdes, Ricardo Rodriguez Brey, Juan Francisco Elso, Rogelio López Marín (Gory), Gustavo Pérez Monzón, José Manuel Fors, Leandro Soto Ortiz, Israel León, Tomás Sánchez and Carlos Alfonzo. In the second half of the decade, other artistic groups were formed, including 4 x 4, Grupo Hexágono, Arte Calle, Grupo Provisional, the duet René Francisco Rodríguez and Eduardo Ponjuán González and ABTV. Grupo Puré, another new wave of young artists, graduates of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) included Ana Albertina Delgado Álvarez, Adriano Buergo, Ciro Quintana, Ermi Taño and Lázaro Saavedra, all greatly influenced by the German Kitsch art movement. Additionally, a large number of talented creators excelled independently, such as Florencio Gelabert (sculptor), Arturo Cuenca Sigarreta, Rigoberto Mena, Humberto Castro, Gustavo Acosta, Kcho, Antonio Eligio Fernandez (Tonel), Adriano Buergo, Flavio Garciandía, Tania Bruguera, Juan Francisco Elso, Carlos Rodríguez Cárdenas, Quisqueya Henríquez, Glexis Novoa, José Toirac, Carlos García, Heriberto Mora, Segundo Planes and Pedro Vizcaíno, among others.

Large Stephen Westfall Diptych Abstract Oil Painting Post Minimalist Pop Art
Located in Surfside, FL
STEPHEN WESTFALL (American, b. 1953)
''Days and Nights Without End'' (diptych)
1988, oil on canvas
signed, titled and dated on canvas verso
60'' inches square; 85''h, 170''w combined.
Stephen Westfall (born 1953 Schenectady, New York) is an American painter, critic, and professor at Rutgers University and Bard College.
When Stephen Westfall was an adolescent, he was fascinated by the social spaces created by architecture. By age twelve, he was bringing home architecture books about Louis Kahn, Le Corbusier, and Luis Barragán, architects who carved up space with colored walls. Barragan was more polychromatic, but even white was a color for Corbusier, who also added color to his interior walls in his chapel architectural masterpiece. Stephen Westfall attended University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. and M.F.A. in 1978. After an art class taken at the College of Creative Studies in Santa Barbara which further ignited his already creative spirit, he picked up an art major to go with a Literature major. As a student, he loved 60’s American abstract painting because it seemed to address interior space with the same forthrightness that the architects he admired addressed exterior space. He later received his Master of Fine Arts also from the University of California, Santa Barbara. While he was still an undergraduate, he also began writing art criticism for Art Week, then the only art magazine on the west coast. He has continued to write art criticism after he moved to New York (state), beginning with Arts Magazine in 1981. A self-described “poppish, post-minimalist geometric painter,” Stephen Westfall creates images that explore color, form, and flatness—and the relationship between these elements—as well as the legacy of Minimalism and the Hard-Edged school. Finding inspiration everywhere from Roman floor tiles to Navajo motifs and game boards to billboards, Westfall makes compositions that engage in dialogue with the art of John McLaughlin, Frank Stella, Sol Lewitt, Agnes Martin, Piet Mondrian, and even Henri Matisse. While his geometric arrangements appear perfectly rendered to the viewer’s eye, the artist insists he doesn’t use tape, instead allowing a hint of the hand to remain.Stephen Westfall’s paintings have charted a course between post-minimalist geometries and a Pop art inflected awareness of a painting as a thing in the world. The brightly colored diamonds, triangles and trapezoids in his most recent canvases are conjoined into dynamic compositional skeins that seem to lean into space rather than recede. Drawing on Caucasian and Navajo Rug, medieval heraldry, Byzantine floor tile, early twentieth-century abstraction, architecture and Pop, Minimalist and Postminimalism, Westfall’s abstraction is deeply acculturated while formally honed into an active, perceptual immediacy.
Over the course of the last decade, Westfall has focused his work to address architecture more directly and wall paintings have become his way to fuse paintings to architectural scale. He regards these paintings as now being essential to his artistic practice as his paintings on canvas and paper, which are bound by more conventional notions of portability and transferability. Important exhibitions of these wall paintings have taken place at Art Omi in 2014, The McNay Art Museum in 2015, and at the Museum of Art, Architecture and Design at the University of California, Santa Barbara, also in 2015.
In 2018, Westfall worked closely with Queens-based glass fabricator Depp Glass to create the 47 laminated glass panels installed at the 30 Ave Subway Station in New York City. The scale, mirrored glass, and merging movement invoke not only the repertoire of processional themes in classical friezes, but also the movement of public transportation in our contemporary life, in particular the shuttering of light through the mezzanine windows and the bustle of commuters in our mass transit system.
After Westfall received his MFA in 1978 from the University of California, Santa Barbara, he had his first solo exhibition in 1984 at Tracey Garet in New York’s East Village and earned reviews that took note of his particular brand of geometric abstraction. Exhibitions followed during the 1980s and into the 1990s at Daniel Newburg Gallery in New York, Galerie Paal in Munich, Germany and Galerie Wilma Lock in St. Gallen, Switzerland. An exhibition of paintings took place at Andre Emmerich Gallery in New York in 1995, followed by several exhibitions at Galerie Zurcher in Paris. Recent work has been exhibited at Kunstgalerie Bonn in Germany, David Richard Gallery in Santa Fe, Galerie Gisela Clement in Germany, Robischon Gallery in Denver, LA Projects in Germany, and Anne Morreseri-Marlio Galerie, Switzerland.
Westfall has been included in several important survey exhibitions of abstract painting including Abstraction/abstractions, géométries provisoires at the Musée d’art Moderne in Saint-Etienne, France in 1997 and in both exhibitions titled Conceptual Abstraction, first at Sidney Janis Gallery in 1991 and in the exhibition that revisited that show which took place at the Hunter College Art Gallery in 2012 (along with Ross Bleckner, David Diao, Lydia Dona...
