Maikol de Sousa (Caracas, Venezuela), also known as Borneo, is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Barcelona. His work is characterized by vibrant colors, patterns, and characters that serve as a starting point in the development of his particular visual language. Borneo's pieces are deeply influenced by various creative sources, with a particular focus on the culture of the late '80s and '90s: from high-brow Memphis-inspired design to urban counterculture movements, passing through tropicalia and pop art, and always with a contemporary twist. As his work evolved, Borneo embraced a more abstract approach. Patterns, shapes, and gradients become part of a more mature language, in a relentless quest for new layers of beauty and meanings. Borneo dedicates time to exploring and developing this form of expression while expanding his work into new formats, including painting, urban art, and ceramics.
