About the Item
Trojan Horse No. 2 is a contemporary abstract oil painting by David Richardson. It is part of his Trojan War Series, inspired by Homer. According to the myth, Greek soldiers captured the city of Troy after Odysseus suggested building a giant wooden horse as an offering to Athena. The Trojans welcomed the horse into its city gates, unaware of the armed Greek soldiers hidden inside. This piece has elements of the horse as well as a torrent of dark red to symbolize the Trojan massacre.
Artist Biography:
David Richardson is from Waterford, Michigan. He was taught to draw and paint by his mother, an artist and art teacher. Richardson studied biology and art while attending Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas. His primary medium is oil, and he also works in acrylic and metal. Richardson became a Colonel during his time in the US Marine Corps, an experience he draws inspiration from to create his artwork. He also marries images from the epics of Homer into his work, creating truly haunting abstracts.
Colonel David Richardson was born in Michigan and is currently based in Arlington, VA. He was taught to paint by his mother, an artist and teacher, in his youth. Richardson draws inspiration from his experience in the US Marine Corps and Homer's Iliad to create his works. A master of oil painting, Richardson also works in acrylic and metal.
