Oil on canvas Du Ke is a Chinese male artist born in 1968 who lives and works in Tongzhou district, Beijing, China. He was graduated from the Painting Department of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1994. In 1995, he settled in Beijing Yuanmingyuan Artist Village to engage in artistic creation. In 1998, he entered the Oil Painting Research Office of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts to study. In 2000, he founded Du Ke Oil Painting Studio. Since 2007, he has been stationed in Songzhuang Artist Village. In 1994, he held his first solo exhibition with the theme “Sofa Series” at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts Art Museum. In 1996, he held one oil painting exhibition with 10 other artists at the Beijing Yunfeng Art Garden. In 1997, he participated at the “Three People Walking” oil painting exhibition in Beijing International Art Garden. Several works were purchased by collectors from Taiwan and Hong Kong. In 2005, he held the Guangzhou Modern Art Salon Exhibition. In 2007, he participated in the “Life in Songzhuang” theme exhibition at Songzhuang Art Museum). In the same year, he participated in the “Songzhuang Art Market” Open Exhibition in Beijing Agricultural Exhibition Hall. In 2008, he participated in the "Welcome to the new Year" Hundred Artists Art Exhibition. Several of his works are collected by the Shangshang International Art Museum. He also participated in the theme exhibition of “Songzhuang Originality” in May. He participated in the “No Theme” painting exhibition in Beijing Hongwan Art Museum in October of the same year. Still in October, he finally participated to the “Contemporary Chinese Art Exhibition” at 798 Dafeng Gallery. In December 2009, the work “Youth Dance” series was sent to Poly Winter Auction. In 2010, he participated in the Nomination Exhibition of Chinese Young Artists in Shanghai. In the same year, he exhibited at the Beijing Huantie Times International Gallery and held a solo exhibition themed “Youth, Youth” where several of his works were collected. In 2010, he participated at the “Beijing Beijing” Art Exhibition at Songzhuang Xiaobao Station Gallery. Since 2012, he is represented by the Songzhuang Art Cooperative Gallery. Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern-day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is a euphoria that affects the deep recesses of consciousness. As is the experience of the sublime, Kang's work is largely abstract. This colorful horizontal artwork is 42 inches high by 30 inches wide. The sides of this textured, original mixed-media artwork are finished as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is hand-signed and dated by the artist on the front and back. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be a molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. Artist commentary: I like to transport my mind to a calming place, inspired by memories, and complex organic elements found in nature. Playing with colors and movement, creating new compositions -- my best work comes when there is freedom to create without any strict plan. With intuition and spontaneity taking over, the result is often a surprise. To me, everything flows, and there is always a sense of balance and harmony that can emerge out of disorder. I love the ambiguous and mysterious nature of abstraction. Through self-discovery and experimentation, I am allowing dynamic energy that manifests through the joy of creating. The result is loose interpretations of anything that exists between the mind and reality, therefore each painting is unique and sometimes inexplicable.
