A viewer would first seek out points of similarity between this abstract painting, which draws inspiration from Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism, and then they would just let themselves go on the journey, led by the energy that appears on the canvas. With darker lines that contrast with the tonally rich background, Ferle painted the canvas in grey and black tones.
This canvas invites us to put aside any familiar references and allow the spirituality they hold to engulf us. This spirituality might appear to be at odds with the violent gesture used to create the painting.

Elvire Ferle
For Ferle, painting is a ‘moment’ which alone justifies the motion of the artist, mobilized physically by the composition of her work. Her canvasses entice us to abandon all known references and leave us submerged by the spirituality that they are so full of. Her works, nearing abstract minimalism and often in extremely large formats, are composed of colored geometric patterns. Light and colour are central to her pictorial research and even become the focal point of her work. Throughout her long career, the artist has exhibited in museums and galleries in France, Europe and Japan.
