This is a striking abstract oil painting on free-standing canvas defined by a composition of textured horizontal color bands. The palette is predominantly dark and atmospheric, starting with a large, deep matte black field at the top, followed by a mottled band of speckled light gray or white.
Below this, the work transitions through moody, blended washes of dark gray and hazy white before introducing the central focal point: a vibrant yet soft horizontal stripe of chartreuse green bleeding into a band of deep teal or aquamarine. The composition is grounded by a textured bottom field of dark, earthy slate gray, resulting in an overall feeling that is meditative, somber, and reminiscent of a vast, layered landscape or horizon seen through mist.
In Ferle’s practice, painting becomes a means of constructing new spaces — openings that lead toward infinity and a form of spirituality that transcends the body. Her canvases evoke thresholds to another realm, a fourth dimension. Confronted with her expansive fields of color, one senses proximity to cosmic forces — to black holes, to physics, to the stars.

Elvire Ferle
For Ferle, painting is a ‘moment’ which alone justifies the motion of the artist, mobilized physically by the composition of her work. Her canvasses entice us to abandon all known references and leave us submerged by the spirituality that they are so full of. Her works, nearing abstract minimalism and often in extremely large formats, are composed of colored geometric patterns. Light and colour are central to her pictorial research and even become the focal point of her work. Throughout her long career, the artist has exhibited in museums and galleries in France, Europe and Japan.
