“After a walk on a winter day without any particular light,
I was seized by the rise of greens through lichens, moss, of what was horizontal, while the trees were
still without leaves. The water was very calm and threatened to invade the nerves.
It is this immobilism that has seduced me and I am suspicious. This beauty can turn into a catastrophic flood.
That day seemed to me to be a balance point before the flip...”
The painting is a landscape memento mori (remember that you are going to die), frozen in the moment when the tranquility of nature and its potential for destruction meet in perfect balance.
The work is dominated by a vast space of off-white and light grey that evokes a misty atmosphere and diffused winter light.
The composition is anchored by a low and dense horizon line.
The lower plane, diluted and worked in transparency, suggests calm but rising water. The formal contrast is established by the three bare tree trunks in the foreground made in relief.
The palette is sober, but the accents of acid green (lichen/moss) are crucial. This raw material is used to represent resistance (trees and earth) and transparent glazes for the fluid threat of water.
The painting captures a moment of stillness that is both seductive and disturbing. "High Water" is therefore the representation of a point of equilibrium before the tipping point. The work is not a simple description of a landscape, but a meditation on the fragility of the natural order.

Emmanuelle Vroelant
Born in 1952, Emmanuelle Vroelant has been living and working in Roscoff, Brittany since 2006. Despite a real attraction for artistic creation, her parents encouraged her to study. After graduating in psychology, she leaves to discover the world and it is far from the family weight that she gives life to her first child. She moved to Vanuatu where she met artist Juan Roderta and journalist Alphonso Colondro. These two men allow a real questioning of the artist who discovers the need to paint. On her return to Paris, she opened her first studio in 1981 and ended up exhibiting in 1985, 86, 88 and 89 at the Grand Palais Autumn Show, allowing her to start an international career.After two years of illness, Emmanuelle lost her inspiration and opened a psychoanalyst practice in Paris, where she practised art therapy. In 2006, she left her Parisian life to settle in Brittany, which allowed her to regain a creative energy. At the request of collector Michel Chamming’s, Emmanuelle successfully exhibited in Paris in 2009. During the inauguration of a New York gallery, she meets Jean-Claude Reumont who offers her to represent her for China. Today, Emmanuelle Vroelant’s works are present in the United States, China and France.
