Evan Venegas studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and earned his BFA in Painting in 1998.
Evan Venegas creates artwork that lives at the intersection of geometry and atmosphere. His translucent, layered forms echo Josef Albers’s investigations into how colors interact, yet with a gentler, more fluid sensibility. Where Albers sought clarity in hard-edged squares and strict palettes, Venegas allows color to breathe and shift, using transparency and overlap to evoke mood and depth. At the same time, the meditative expansiveness of his work recalls Mark Rothko, where color becomes a vehicle for emotion and contemplation.
His work is an exploration of perception—how colors influence one another, how forms
expand or contract depending on their context, and how abstraction can still feel human and meditative. At once structured and fluid, Venegas’s paintings invite viewers into a contemplative space where geometry becomes poetic and color becomes emotional.
This balance of intellectual rigor and emotional resonance makes his art particularly
compelling for environments where atmosphere, clarity, and sophistication matter—
whether that’s a private collection, a contemporary office, or a public-facing cultural space.
