Extremely pleasing colours in this very nicely composed still life depicting onions on a table, placed by an earthenware blue pitcher, or jug. Audet very much enjoyed using the impasto thick paint as seen in this example, to create texture and bring a scene to life. It is signed to the front, lower right. This has excellent provenance, having come from the artist's estate in France.
This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Audet.
condition report:
In good clean condition, no craquelure or sparse paint. The canvas appears to have been nailed to the stretcher frame at the sides and the loose edges then glued at the back - a three inch section of the glued loose canvas edge at the back has lost its adhesion to the stretcher frame but this could easily be re-glued or pinned. It is not visible from the front.
