About the Item
Passages of crimson, silver, gold with licks of pink and lime green acrylic paint are brushed, dripped, sprayed and shaped into a lively narrative. This masterful composition inspired by plant species of an herbarium is a playful exploration of color, texture and pattern.
Since completing her BFA through Concordia and ECIAD, Ackerman has exhibited across Canada and in Europe (Germany
France). She was longlisted for the Sobey Prize in 2015, received an honorable mention for the Kingston Prize for Canadian Portraiture in 2009, and was included in Carte Blanche 2: Painting, a survey and showcase painting in Canada (published by The Magenta Foundation, fall 2008).

Fiona Ackerman
Originally from Montreal, Fiona Ackerman studied paintings at Concordia University and completing a BFA at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2002. She currently lives and works in Vancouver BC and exhibits her work internationally (Canada, Europe, USA, UK and Asia). Fiona’s studio practice extends beyond painting to include several large-scale murals, video projections and other public art projects. In her free time, she writes and records music and videos, often working collaboratively with other musicians. Rooted in abstraction, I want to push my work in divergent directions, to surprise myself, and keep the possibilities for my painting wide open. Working in series, I develop a stylistic language specific to the mood or conceptual objectives I'm working on. Over the years, my work has seen many different stylistic evolutions. I see my arc of work much like that of an author. Each series is like a new book, different in tone, style, and story. But they are all part of a larger archive, and each a meaningful piece of the whole. - Ackerman
