Gabriela Meunié was born in Mallorca in 1987 and is currently based in Bordeaux. Her artistic career began at an early age when she pursued her studies in Fine Arts, first in Mallorca and later in Barcelona, at the renowned “Escola Massana” Art and Design Center. It was here that she nurtured her passion for painting and began to fully immerse herself in the world of contemporary art. Throughout her academic journey, Gabriela developed a deep interest in the avant-garde movements of the time, which led her to constantly explore new forms of expression through the medium of painting.
From the very beginning, Gabriela was drawn to the work of North American artists such as Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell. These artists had a significant influence on her artistic approach, particularly regarding the interaction of color, form, and space. Through these influences, Gabriela began to investigate the power of painting as a means of conveying complex concepts and deep emotions, viewing painting not only as a visual medium but as a tool that, much like poetry, can push the boundaries of language and communication.
Gabriela’s work is firmly rooted within the Abstract Expressionist movement, where the spontaneous gesture and emotional immediacy are paramount. Her pieces are characterized by large-scale formats and the use of various painting materials, which allow her to create dynamic and evocative surfaces. These surfaces do not simply present visual appeal; they invite deeper reflection on the very nature of painting itself. Gabriela’s creative process, much like many Abstract Expressionists, is a performance in its own right; every stroke, every brushstroke reflects a unique moment of emotion and thought, transforming the canvas into a manifestation of her inner being.
Over the years, Gabriela has evolved her technique, incorporating new tools and experimental approaches, yet always maintaining coherence with the fundamental principles of Abstract Expressionism. The way she handles color, materials, and composition has made her a standout artist in her field, not only due to the visual power of her pieces but also because of the intellectual depth that underpins them. Each of her works serves as a testament to her ongoing quest to express the ineffable, a continuous play between what is visible and invisible, what is seen and what is felt.
Gabriela Meunié’s art is part of an open, plural dialogue with the viewer. Far from being a hermetic proposition, her works aim to establish a direct emotional connection with those who encounter them. Through her abstract compositions, the artist invites the viewer into her internal world, where chaos, harmony, dissonance, and beauty converge and interrelate. The fluid brushstrokes, color splashes, and unrestrained compositions offer a unique sensory experience in which the observer is led to discover their own interpretations and meanings.
Gabriela’s paintings not only reflect her own process of self-discovery and artistic growth but also highlight her firm belief in the transformative power of art. She views her painting as a vehicle for introspection and emotional connection, a space where the viewer can explore their own feelings and thoughts through engagement with the artwork. Her art is not a mere aesthetic exercise but a medium to explore and question the boundaries of human experience and its representation in painting.
Gabriela Meunié continues to challenge the limits of abstract painting, pushing tradition in new directions and always seeking fresh ways to explore visual language. Her works have been exhibited in various galleries and art spaces and have been recognized for their ability to move and captivate a diverse audience, from contemporary art collectors to abstract painting enthusiasts.

Gabriela Meunié Born in Palma de Mallorca (ES) currently living in France (FR)
2010 Escola Massana, Academy of Art, Barcelona Franco-American artist, she grew up surrounded by artists and their way of working and living in the 80s on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, such the Austrian abstract painter Gottfried Mairwöger, the Mallorquin artist Miquel Barcelo or the Danish artist Lin Utzon. Gabriela Meunié comes from an academic background, specializing in figurative drawing and human anatomy. Once acquired these academic techniques, she has been working for many years in the field of abstract painting. Influenced by north-American artists like Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell, she believes artist's work has to be constant and regular. Her approach is process oriented and lets us participate in her studio experience. Taking into account that in painting the modification of the technique inevitably leads to the modification of the form.
She explores abstraction creating her own colors based on pure pigments, acrylic binder and acrylic colors on large format. Her painting is part of the Abstract Expressionism movement where the spontaneous gesture is highlighted. SELECTED EXHIBITIONS 2023 Exposition Radisson Blu, Bordeaux (FR)
