“Untitled, 1982” by Jandyra Waters (Brazilian, 1921-2025)
A fantastic example of Waters’ mature geometric abstraction. Anchored by a commanding central trapezoid that reads as a corridor, the composition is symmetrical yet far from static. Fields of coral pink, purple, emerald green, and grey lock together with architectural precision. Waters uses these flat passages of color to construct a visual rhythm, evoking a procession toward an unseen focal point beyond the picture plane.
The work is oil on canvas and is signed and inscribed by Waters on the reverse. It is housed in a beautiful custom wood frame, ready to hang.

About the artist:
Jandyra Ramos Waters (Brazilian, 1921–2025) was a painter, sculptor, engraver, and poet, recognized as one of the pioneering figures in Brazilian geometric abstraction.
After volunteering in post‑WWII Europe, she studied painting at County Council Art School in Sussex (1947) and later trained in sculpture, ceramics, engraving, and art history in São Paulo.
Debuting at the 21st Salão Paulista de Belas‑Artes (1956), her work progressed from figurative landscapes and still lifes to rhythmic, vibrantly colored geometric forms often described as “neo-Mondrianism” . Waters participated in exhibitions such as the 9th São Paulo Bienal (1967) and her later work included sculptural relief pieces in cut-painted wood . She also published three poetry collections and remained active until her passing at age 103 .
Condition: Very good overall condition. Some faint isolated spots of craquelure commensurate with age. Minor scattered touch up along extreme edges. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed!
