Garden is an original semi abstract painting by Janet Keith. This painting is a response to exploring and relaxing in a garden somewhere new. Is that a path ? where might it go ? Is that a pavilion or a shed ? imagine the gentle breeze, the scent and sound of grasses and blooms. My paintings are never intended to be a record of any particular place – they just start and develop as I work and often turn out to echo experiences I may have had. Wandering around gardens is always a joy especially when the garden is a bit of a mystery and embraces both structure and wildness.

Winter Garden is an original abstract landscape painting by Janet Keith. The colours in the painting are inspired by the bright light and vegetation in the winter garden – frost or a dusting of snow over grass being slowly melted to reveal ovals of green lawn beneath the trees and bright blue shadows caused by a low winter sun. It is a bright and energetic evocation of winter- perhaps with a feeling of life stirring under the surface being awakened by the warmth of the sun- hinted at by the speedy, scribbly brush marks and application of paint.

Janet Keith is a contemporary painter based in the U.K. Her painting is a response to the visual excitement and beauty of her surroundings. Her artistic roots are in outdoor painting, working directly from life. However, that rich experience now informs a more abstract and mostly studio based approach to painting – which has become an exploration of how spontaneous gesture and considered pictorial structure weave together in building an expressive painting.
Janet works in an unplanned, improvisational and intuitive way – with one mark or colour opening possibilities for the next. Sometimes this results in an entirely abstract image. Often the painting echoes the very rural surroundings of her studio and influences from travels near and far. Janet comments,
‘…I am so often surprised to have made a painting which I could never have imagined or planned in advance. I like to think that in painting I am releasing some ‘joie de vivre’ and reflecting back into the world some of the wonder I find there…’.
Janet has Degrees in both the History of Art and Painting. She exhibits regularly in the UK and has paintings in private collections in the UK, USA, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Australia.
