About the Item
Mixed media on canvas 91 x 72.7 cm (35.8 x 28.6 in)
Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter #92 is a striking exploration of movement, emotion, and sensory depth. As part of her acclaimed Humming Letter series, this piece captures the fluidity of sound and its transformation into a textured visual language. The artist’s expressive hand-applied technique creates a surface rich with depth and energy, inviting the viewer into a dynamic interplay of color and motion.
The painting radiates a vibrant dialogue between lush greens, deep blues, and fiery accents of orange, evoking the organic rhythm of nature—perhaps a wind-swept landscape or an ocean’s restless surface. The swirling strokes and layered pigments create a sense of movement, as if the composition itself is in constant evolution.
Distinctive to this work is Kwon’s signature handwritten script along the right edge, seamlessly integrated into the composition. This calligraphic element adds a poetic dimension, reinforcing the painting’s connection to sound and rhythm. The absence of traditional brushwork further enhances the tactile quality of the piece, making it feel raw and instinctive, a direct extension of the artist’s emotions onto the canvas.
Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter series has established itself as one of her most evocative artistic endeavors, praised for its ability to translate emotion into form. Her work is increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate its unique fusion of contemporary abstraction and personal storytelling.
Humming Letter #92 stands out not only for its composition but also for its immersive energy. The interplay of colors and textures makes it a captivating centerpiece, offering a different visual experience depending on the light and angle from which it is viewed. Its distinct blend of expressive abstraction and sensory resonance makes it an exceptional addition to any collection.
This mixed-media painting is in pristine condition, professionally maintained to ensure the integrity of its vibrant pigments and textured surface. The impasto layers of paint give the work a sculptural quality, shifting dynamically under different lighting conditions. It is a piece that must be seen in person to fully appreciate its depth and complexity.
Kwon Ji-an, known for her transition from music to fine art, has cultivated a deeply personal artistic language that integrates auditory and visual elements. The Humming Letter series is a reflection of her belief that music and painting exist in harmony, each influencing the other. Since her debut solo exhibition in 2012, she has continued to evolve, gaining international recognition for her multidisciplinary approach.
This work presents a rare opportunity to acquire a significant piece from one of Kwon Ji-an’s most recognized series. Its rich textures, expressive movement, and deep emotional resonance make it a compelling acquisition for collectors who seek art that is both visually and conceptually engaging.

Kwon Ji-an, professionally known as Solbi, is a multidisciplinary South Korean artist who has made a remarkable transition from the world of K-Pop to the contemporary art scene. After debuting in 2006 as a singer in the group Typhoon, she gradually shifted her focus toward the visual arts, culminating in her first solo exhibition in 2012, A Person’s Way of Looking at the World, in Seoul. Since then, she has developed a highly personal and expressive artistic language that fuses painting, performance, video, and sound. Her work is rooted in autobiographical experience and emotional introspection, often addressing the pressures of public life, the impact of cyberbullying, and the healing power of creativity. Through “self-collaboration”, she merges her background in music with visual art, creating dynamic compositions that incorporate sound waves and tactile gestures. Kwon frequently paints with her hands, producing richly textured surfaces full of movement and emotion, reminiscent of the expressive qualities found in the works of Renoir and Van Gogh.
Her paintings explore the boundaries between existence and nonexistence, chaos and harmony, material and immaterial. Her signature aesthetic is characterized by swirling color fields, bold gestures, and a strong sense of rhythm, reflecting her belief in the power of sensory experience. In 2015, she introduced her interdisciplinary project TRACE, marking a turning point in her practice and affirming her position as an “art-tainer", a unique cultural figure who bridges the gap between pop culture and
contemporary art. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Arttainer Division Award at the 2019 Korea First Brand Awards. Today, Kwon Ji-an stands as one of South Korea’s most original and influential voices in the arts, continuing to push boundaries through works that are not only seen but deeply felt.
“If my paintings can touch someone’s heart and be part of their healing process, that would be amazing.” – Kwon Ji-an
