Love is in the Air - Blue and Purple Abstract Composition
Multicolored, lightly iridescent abstract composition by Judith W Winslow (JW) (American, 1943-2023). This piece is features a variety of textures, layers, and different mark-making techniques, creating an engaging and dynamic composition. The base color is a rich blue, with layers of more subtle pinks, purples, and some teals layering over it. The pink is lightly iridescent and pairs well with the silver detailing across the piece. A closer look at the silver detailing shows that the word "Love" is interspersed throughout the canvas. Throughout the piece there are also small crystals adhered to the surface. Depending on the angle, this piece can change colors and reflect light in different ways.

JW Winslow (American, 20th C) was a writer, poet, TV producer, and television show personality. Winslow was a fascinating artist from Big Sur California. She came to the Monterey peninsula in the 1990s on a business trip. A chance decision to walk on the beach near Fisherman's wharf cut the mold for J W right then and there. She moved to Monterey and at first lived in Pacific Grove. Later she moved to Carmel Woods in a small artists cottage. Over the years she developed and style and method, including using recycled materials, and created her own style. Many locals came to her studio to purchase her works. She took work at a local Cannery row architectural firm to pay the bills. Later she found her home to be Big Sur, her spiritual and artistic base of operations. As a successful radio personality, she was asked to create a TV show on art and artists. She had numerous shows on local and Community television.

A striking mid-century textural color-field abstract in a bold color palette of royal blue-purple by San Francisco artist Peter Witwer (American, 1928-1968). This highly textured mixed media piece, c.1960's, uses a monochromatic palette that is divided into two areas of varying textural depths. The lower part of the canvas verges on sculptural, as the textured surface becomes almost three-dimensional and haunting forms emerge from the abstract purple-blue plane.

Displayed in a painted wood slate frame. Frame has been painted by the artist and is considered part of the artwork.

Provenance: Without a will and a family that had little interest in his art, nearly all of his possessions and close to 100 paintings were turned over to SF’s Conservators Office. His friend, Albert Richard Lasker, purchased all of Peter’s possessions (including the art) and has taken care of them until this day, always sensing there was something remarkable about the collection. Wanting Peter’s work to finally be seen, Richard came to Lost Art Salon with Peter’s story after reading about the new gallery in a July, 2005 issue of the SF Chronicle.
