About the Item
Contemporary green and yellow organic abstract painting by Houston based artist Julián Sierra. The work features clean-edged blocks of color undulating through an abstract field resembling botanical shapes. Currently unframed. Signed and dated in the front lower right corner.
Artist Biography: Julián Sierra is a multidisciplinary artist born on June 6, 1978, in Villavicencio (Meta), Colombia. He stands out in various artistic disciplines, including photography, drawing, and painting. He grew up in the Casanare region, between Trinidad Casanare and Yopal Casanare, where he lived until he was fifteen and was inspired by the colors and textures that nature offered in that beautiful Colombian region.
From an early age, Julián showed an interest in the visual arts and dedicated himself to drawing with pencils, pens, and colored pencils. At school, he was known as "the one who drew beautifully" and always enjoyed painting, leaving his mark on notebooks and papers. Throughout his life, he liked to travel through Colombia, exploring some of its beautiful places full of color and wonderful harmony, finding in them a great source of inspiration: skies, mountains, textures, and colors.
In the 90s, Julián moved to the city of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. As time went on, his interest in the visual arts developed even further. He continued drawing with colored pencils and then took classes with a private teacher, which allowed him to learn different techniques and delve into artistic painting. During these classes, he explored oil, acrylics, watercolor, proportions, perspective, and color management.
Throughout his career, Julián has participated in various exhibitions and artistic events. His participation in Zona Cultura Bogotá in 2006 stands out, as well as a photography exhibition in Yopal Casanare in 2013. For some years, he was especially focused on photography and photographic post-production, exploring portraits, fashion photography for magazines, and nature art photography. This period immersed in the world of photography allowed him to discover himself even more as a visual artist, learning about aesthetics, brightness, depth, and detail, elements that nature possesses and that he now applies in his artistic painting.

“Concave Surrender” Contemporary Green Gestural Abstract Expressionist Painting
Located in Houston, TX
Contemporary green toned gestural abstract expressionist painting by Houston based artist Kristi Haines Herman. The work features layers of swirling brushwork in tones of green, white, and black. Signed, titled, and dated on the reverse. Currently unframed, but options are available.
Artist Biography: As an abstract painter, Kristi Haines Herman, uses her artwork to execute ideas and two-dimensional environments that create an emotional experience for the viewer. Her paintings are inspired by personal involvements and reactions to them. Phrases and words ruminate in her mind and slowly turn into abstracted figures that convey her inner thoughts. Haines Herman is highly influenced by movement as her artistic expression due to many years in dance. Movement is depicted through various gestural lines, shapes, and texture which allow the audience to venture through the canvas; thus a visual dance from one edge to another on the painting’s surface.
Ballet was Haines Herman’s first love in the art world, starting at age five. She learned to use body movement as an outward expression which allowed her to explore various audience reactions. This would later correlate with her artwork. In her late teens, dance and visual art would intertwine with time on stage as well as painting for expression. Gradually, visual art became her primary artistic avenue.
Haines Herman attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, where she majored in studio art under professors Frank Hobbs...

This painting is the first in a series of large paintings I'm doing over the course of the 2021 summer months. I started with a medium blue/gray base to give richness and consistent saturation across the whole piece. I wanted this to feel like hiking through the deep woods on a hot, humid day when the visceral experience of nature is unavoidable. I had the Dinosaur Jr...
