Maria Paola Coda's creative process dwells on a permanent search for the beauty hiding within our state of mind. Coda examines and translates the vibratory element of beauty that goes beyond shape or colour, on to her canvas.“It’s that vibration that makes you cry when looking or listening to something without a rational reason. Beauty as a sublime concept is what interests me and what I am looking for.” The exaggerated multi layering of intensely coloured acrylics acts as a poetic emotional channel, each layer of matter represents an experience, a mood, a time and a place, which then come together to create balance.
Both in her technique and the end result of her artworks, Maria Paola's work has been compared to Rothko's compositions. The artist is in a meditative state when creating, which comes from the repetitive movement of her hand painting on the canvas layers and layers of acrylic paint. The conclusion is a beautiful and delicate composition. A perfect combination of colours in the right saturation and degradation of the same. Like Rothko's meditation rooms, Maria Paola Coda's work represent the Sublime of the Romanticism, but in an abstract way.
