About the Item
Collection: Beyond the Horizon
Acrylic on canvas
Md Tokon's style has reflected the art of American Abstract Expressionists. Md Tokon spent his early years in Jhenidah and Dhaka. The physicality and immediacy of his paintings are inspired moments of deep reflection; they transport the viewer to a place neither here nor there, a timeless place beyond the horizon. Tokon's paintings deliver their message reflecting nature, emotion, and passion; with intense aesthetic expression, through surface and color. Md Tokon is in love with color and in love with the cities he grew up in. Throughout the canvas he has been deeply influenced by layer of soil, light, surface, music lyrics, harmony and invention, monochrome and minimalism. All his paintings have a significant abstract expression focused on the depiction of emotions rather than objects. His work can not only be described as "lyrical
atmospheric abstraction", but also convey an insight into life and a spiritual attachment.
Md Tokon likes the action, freedom, power, strength, excitement, and most of all the emotion that color and line can communicate.

Md Tokon
Md Tokon's recent abstractions are based on color, darkness, light, and space. His work shares similarities with the lyrics of Bob Dylan and Rabindranath Tagore, which are simple, pure, and organic. The results are highly emotional, energetic, and sensational. Md Tokon loves color and the cities where he grew up. He learned about soil layers from his childhood and captured this style when his mother cared for their soil house wall. His destination remains unknown, but he is ready to walk on his land as long as he is not tired. Born in Jhenidah, Bangladesh, he grew up in a neighborhood that was not known for supporting artistic pursuits. But with his family's support, he soon realized his dream. As a teenager, he was inspired to pursue a career as an artist. When he was about 10, he created his first real painting. City life, the surrounding atmosphere, and social structure greatly influenced him. Throughout his work, he has been deeply inspired by layers of soil, light, surfaces, music lyrics, harmony, invention, monochrome, and minimalism. He developed a significant body of work that is often both poetic and pleasing to the eye, while also reflecting his diverse theoretical interests and extensive travels. He created an opaque, dense surface of substance and mass. At the same time, the paintings seem luminous as if building up the surface. He trapped the light within its layers, making his works highly emotional and peaceful. His works are purely abstract and carry a strong touch of impressionism. His main focus is on bringing expressive colors and a melodious space to the canvas. In his work, he applies many layers of paint, using gesture, the breath of emotion, and an internal sense of color. His paintings depict stories of nature and human emotions and communicate in a mysterious way. Space plays a significant role in his works, sometimes interior space, inner space, or landscape. His works are closely connected to dreams and illusions. In his use of color, he exhibits a romantic concern for vivid, lively hues and soulful textures. All his paintings feature a significant abstract expression focused on conveying emotions rather than objects. His work can be described as "Lyrical
atmospheric abstraction." Md Tokon's works also offer insight into life and a spiritual attachment. His most noted artistic influences are from abstract expressionism in New York. Most of these painters favored large canvases, dramatic colors, and loose brushwork. Their work inspired him and influenced his choice of style. He appreciates the action, freedom, power, strength, excitement, and especially the emotion that color and line can communicate.

ARICA HILTON BIOGRAPHY:
Perhaps it was because she was born on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, an important waterway for cross-cultural trade and the birth of great civilizations, that Arica Hilton brings a passion for our earth and its inhabitants to her life as an artist and global advocate.
Whether hiking the Himalayas to experience the country’s culture, or cage diving with great white sharks off Guadalupe Island, or participating in scientific expeditions to document threats to the health of our oceans, Hilton is driven to pursue first-hand encounters with people and their living environments.
The seeds for Hilton’s dauntless pursuits were sown early. At six-years-old she moved to the United States, not knowing a word of English. Her sense of displacement had a lasting impact, prompting a search to uncover where she belonged in the world. Hilton determined early on that her most illuminating pathway would be the road less taken – a pursuit that continues today.
Near and far, Hilton seeks the unique and uncommon. Her adventures have included 22 visits to Asia. She has swum, run and biked her way through triathlons. She has participated in global initiatives for just governance and human security. And she inspires awareness and searches for solutions to improve living conditions for humanity and our earth as a whole. Hilton’s art and global advocacy are informed by the different schools of thought and cultures that she continually encounters.
Hilton’s own creative pursuits began with writing poetry and expanded to painting when she began to illustrate her poems. Her artistic evolution sparked an interest in the realm of creation as she discovered mathematics, physics, quantum mechanics and string theory. Her studies solidified her passion for environmentalism when she learned that stars are nothing more than another extension of humanity – that the elements in the bloodstream are the same elements that comprise a star. The interconnection was what Hilton had been searching for her whole life. As Hilton says “We are the same as a star. How beautiful is that?”
Today, Hilton is a visual artist, poet and global advocate who travels worldwide to enrich her life and the lives of others. She is based in Chicago, where she is the director and curator of Hilton Asmus...
