About the Item

At Sea Between Fossils and Satellites 14 is a vertical mixed-media work from Melisa Taylor Metzger’s decade-long series At Sea Between Fossils and Satellites (2015–2025). This piece layers impasto textures, embedded fragments, and iridescent washes in a palette of deep blues, sea greens, and luminous violets. Shells, organic debris, and studio remnants are partially submerged in sediment-like surfaces, evoking the tension between visibility and erosion. The vertical composition suggests a descent—into oceanic depths, memory, or geological strata—blurring distinctions between landscape, body, and map. Drawing on Earth Art and Art Informel, Metzger constructs a biophilic, tactile surface where matter and light shift with perspective. At Sea Between Fossils and Satellites 14 invites viewers into a liminal terrain, suspended between the organic and the celestial, where time accumulates in layers and the remnants of nature and human presence coexist in quiet transformation. Comes signed, ready-to-hang with sky blue-painted edges.
