About the Item

“Mixing In Spring” is a vibrant and expressive original abstract painting from the Bloomflow collection, exploring themes of emergence, renewal, and gentle transformation. Measuring 8” W × 10” H, this intimate work captures the feeling of color in motion—where hues blend, overlap, and softly assert themselves within an open, breathable composition. The surface is layered with fluid brushwork and translucent passages, allowing saturated magentas, fresh greens, warm yellows, and soft peach tones to interact organically. Marks appear both deliberate and spontaneous, creating a visual rhythm that feels light, buoyant, and alive. Subtle linear gestures weave through the composition, adding depth and movement while preserving an overall sense of ease. Texture is present but restrained—visible strokes and layered paint provide tactile interest without heaviness. Areas of openness and negative space allow the colors to bloom outward, reinforcing the work’s seasonal energy and sense of quiet growth. “Mixing In Spring” offers a small but impactful presence. Its scale invites close viewing, making it ideal for spaces where color and movement are meant to be discovered rather than announced. Her work explores themes of introspection, identity, memory, and the internal landscapes we navigate daily. With a deep appreciation for journaling and the imperfect beauty of handwritten expression, Michelle incorporates raw materials, distressed textures, gestural markings, and symbolic fragments into her compositions. Through layered surfaces, intuitive movement, and emotionally charged technique, she creates artwork that is both intimate and bold—capturing the tension between what is expressed and what remains unfinished. Her practice is rooted in exploration and freedom, allowing each body of work to emerge organically from mood, instinct, and sensory experience. On the 1stDibs platform, Michelle’s artwork is presented through five curated collections, each representing a distinct facet of her evolving creative voice: 1. Urban Edge Grit, gesture, texture, and the unfiltered emotional language of modern street art. This collection channels the tactile energy of urban environments—graffiti-marked walls, layered posters, distressed textures, and the spontaneous visual rhythm found in city landscapes. These works often incorporate mixed media, instinctive marks, scraped surfaces, and symbolic handwriting that echo the fragmented narratives of street culture. Bold, expressive, and emotionally charged, this series celebrates the honesty of unfiltered expression. As her creative journey evolves, Michelle continues pushing boundaries within this collection, embracing the beauty of raw, textural imperfection. 2. Bloomflow Soft movement, expressive blooms, and the emotional warmth of nature reimagined through abstraction. In this collection, Michelle explores floral energy not through literal representation, but through mood, gesture, and color. Loose, flowing strokes evoke petals, stems, and organic forms, while warm palettes bring a sense of comfort, joy, and natural harmony. These works blend softness with sophistication, offering uplifting compositions that feel both contemporary and deeply rooted in the emotional resonance of the natural world. Each piece feels like a moment of breath—calming, hopeful, and quietly radiant. 3. Pulse Motion Movement, intensity, and dynamic mark-making shaped by emotion and intuition. This series reflects Michelle’s most instinctive, high-energy practice—compositions driven by rhythm, momentum, and expressive spontaneity. Vibrant strokes, layered gestures, and contrasting visual beats evoke the sensation of music, dance, or the shifting pulse of internal emotion. These pieces carry an electrifying sense of immediacy, celebrating the creative moment itself. Unrestrained and alive, they embody the thrill of expression and the freedom of embracing the unknown. 4. Colorplay Organica Playful forms, bold color, and a joyful spirit of experimentation. This vibrant collection highlights Michelle’s love of humor, boldness, and unconventional creativity. Wiggly shapes, fluid contours, and unexpected palettes come together in quirky, modern compositions bursting with personality. These works feel contemporary, fresh, and unapologetically fun—blending mid-century influences with modern design sensibilities. They invite viewers to experience art with delight and curiosity, proving that sophistication and playfulness can coexist beautifully. 5. Sculpted Stillness Elegant restraint, sculptural surfaces, and the quiet power of texture. In this minimalist yet deeply expressive series, Michelle allows texture itself to become the focal point. Using thick mediums, sculptural ridges, and dimensional layering, she creates monochromatic or near-monochromatic compositions with mesmerizing depth. These pieces speak in subtle tones—neutral palettes, single-color fields, and understated elegance—making them ideal for sophisticated, design-driven interiors. Built through a slow, meditative process, they reflect the beauty of stillness, tactility, and intentional simplicity.

Printemps, Original Abstract Painting, Jackson Pollock Style Painting Bright Art
By Catherine Pennington-Meyer
Located in Deddington, GB
This colourful contemporary abstract is, as the name might suggest, inspired by leaves unfurling and nature bursting back into life in the wake of spring. Catherine Pennington-Meyer is available at Wychwood Art online and in our gallery. Catherine is an award-winning artist who currently lives and works near Munich, in Germany. Her work concentrates primarily on abstract expressionism. Catherine has participated in exhibitions throughout Europe and has quickly established a prestigious international collector base. Catherine says of her art: `I see my painting as a kind of language, translating what I feel or experience to those viewing it. I am innately drawn to create raw, emotive, expressionist pieces, mostly abstracts, which distil a subject down to its feeling. I don`t only want my art to be `beautiful` but for it to reach out and touch the person who is viewing it on an immediate, intuitive level. I want my paintings to speak to their audience in their own visceral language. I am influenced by nature, particularly the multifaceted nature of water, and memories of growing up in particularly beautiful landscapes in North Yorkshire and Scotland. I also find human psychology and science fascinating. But I see compositions everywhere, whether it be flowers in a park, the way smoke curls, books on a library shelf or a street market. Everything is made up of shapes and colours. The world is a constant source influences and inspiration.’ Over time, as her work has developed, she has been increasingly compelled towards abstraction, through which she feels able to communicate an energy which is untethered by the constraints of realism. She enjoys playing with light, depth and movement in her art to give it immediacy and to draw a viewer into the composition. Catherine also enjoys poetry, and her works occasionally have accompanying narratives. Catherine views visual and written art...
