About the Item
This painted work-on-paper is an abstract geometric design that references colors, shapes, and aesthetics that artist Nancy Agati encountered in Italy. The densely layered composition is constructed from layers of subtle, natural colors. Agati's intricate lines are drawn with handmade clay or slate-based paint, ink, and polymer. All pigments are mixed thoroughly with Golden's Acrylic Polymer mediums, and the entire piece has a final coat of satin polymer medium to protect the surface. The edges are lined with acid free linen tape on the back to prevent tearing. Signed subtly on the front, also signed and dated on the back.
Agati's multidisciplinary work includes; works on paper, printmaking, sculpture, textile, site-specific installation, and public art. Agati holds a BFA from Alfred University, School of Art
Design, NY, and an MFA from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Agati has exhibited her work widely throughout Philadelphia and nationally including exhibitions at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Hillyer Art Space, Washington, DC, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Staten Island, NY, The Calandra Italian American Institute, New York, Crane Arts Building, Philadelphia, and Pentimenti Gallery, Philadelphia.

Nancy Agati
Nancy Agati was born and raised in upstate NY. She relocated to Philadelphia with a BFA from Alfred University, School of Art
Design. Agati earned her MFA in 2007 from the University of The Arts, Philadelphia. She currently resides and maintains an active studio practice in close proximity to the wooded area of Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, which along with the contrasting city streets, offer an abundance of source material. Agati has exhibited her work throughout Philadelphia and nationally in a range of mediums from drawing, textile and sculpture to site-specific installations and public art. She has been a recipient of a Windows of Opportunity Award from the Leeway Foundation and has had artist residencies at the Santa Fe Art Institute, New Mexico; Lo Studio dei Nipoti, Calabria, Italy; and at Main
Station, Nova Scotia. As a recent Tending Space Fellow, Agati has been exploring the practice of mindfulness meditation in relation to her art making process.

This is a sumi ink, acrylic, and mixed media painting on paper in black (or charcoal gray) with subtle appearances of flowers, leaves, and a white medallion. It is a highly textured work on heavy, handmade khadi paper from India, hand torn for irregular edges. This painting can be displayed in any orientation - horizontally or vertically. Antonio Puri was born in Chandigarh, Punjab, India and raised in the Himalayas around Buddhist monks before studying at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Coe College, and the University of Iowa. He established his studio in Philadelphia where he practiced for many years before relocating to Bogotá, Colombia. During this time, Puri completed several artist residencies all over the world, including in New York, Hungary, Bulgaria, Colombia, South Africa, Serbia, Mauritius, India, Denmark, Trinidad and Tobago, and Romania. Puri’s range of geographical and cultural experiences are embedded in his work, where he commonly explores the relationships between his eastern and western cultural connections.
