About the Item
Nyasha Mashumba, having been the apprentice of Mark Hilltout, has now started to carve out a career for himself as artist and designer, utilizing the medium and craft he has mastered over the years of working with Mark. His work in flattened Corrugated Iron highlights the understated beauty of the random, the discarded and the broken. Car dumps fascinate him - he is attracted to the broken edge, not the perfectly straight line. To Nyasha, this enigmatic material is endlessly complex and gloriously tarnished; something that time alone can create and no artist can hope to better. Burnt by the sun, flayed by wind and rain, each sheet is the result of thousands of happy and unhappy accidents - the perfect, imperfect material. He weaves fragments of this material together in order to create beautiful, abstracted and unique pieces.
The artwork is ready to hang and stands about 30mm away from the wall, creating a beautiful shadow line around.

Nyasha Mashumba (b. 1992), having been the apprentice of established artist Mark Hilltout, has now started to carve out a career for himself as artist and designer, utilizing the medium and craft he has mastered over the years of working with Mark. His work in flattened Corrugated Iron highlights the understated beauty of the random, the discarded and the broken. Car dumps fascinate him - he is attracted to the broken edge, not the perfectly straight line. Burnt by the sun, flayed by wind and rain, each sheet is the result of thousands of happy and unhappy accidents - the perfect, imperfect material. Nyasha works from Mark's old studio in Woodstock Cape Town, where he keeps a library of old, flattened corrugated iron pieces, sorted into different hues. He binds fragments of this material together in order to create beautiful, abstracted and unique compositions.
