About the Item
“Aporia is the moment I find myself suspended between knowing and not knowing, between despair and hope. In this painting, I captured the stillness of looking upward, as if answers might fall from the weight of the yellow haze surrounding me. It is both suffocating and illuminating, a paradox of wanting to give up yet still yearning for light. This work is my confession: I do not have all the answers, but I am still here, asking.”
There are days I feel like my head is tilted back, staring into something bigger than me, searching for answers I may never receive. This painting came from one of those days — the kind of day when the weight of silence feels louder than any noise, and the yellow chaos above me became both a storm and a light.
I painted this figure as myself: the wide eyes, not in wonder but in desperation, as if asking, “Why me? Why now? Where is the end of this?” The mouth half-open, like it’s caught between a prayer and a scream, captures a moment I know too well. A moment when I am still alive, but not entirely sure what for.
It’s the overwhelming rush of everything I can’t control, the noise in my head, the circles of thought I keep going back to, the emotions that never fully settle. And yet, in its violence, it still holds a strange kind of beauty. It reminds me that even in my darkest questions, color still bleeds through.

Artist Statement
In the depths of our being, we often encounter feelings so profound they are too deep to articulate, emotions that swirl like shadows, whispering secrets that linger just beyond the edges of understanding. My work seeks to embrace these complex feelings, giving them a canvas to breathe, shift, and resonate. My paintings generally explore the psychological and emotional aspects of everyday life. As the mind exists without form, the body acts as a window into the mind.
I tried to focus on the not-so-obvious feelings. I want to tell truths that you can see only if you care to look inward and pay attention to the details. The cyclical motifs and fading gradients in my works convey the endless flow of time, where individual lives are fleeting moments in a greater continuum. Life doesn’t wait for you to be alright; it just keeps going like an endless circle.
Each piece I create reflects my journey through the labyrinth of human experience. I explore the beauty and turmoil of emotions that can feel isolating yet are universally shared. With paint, textures, and colours, I invite viewers to confront their depths and recognize that the feelings they carry are valid and significant.
I hope that when you stand before my work, you find a connection that transcends words, a reminder that you are not alone in your struggles and triumphs. These pieces are a testament to resilience, a visual embrace that assures us all that we will be fine in the end. Together, let us navigate the intricacies of our emotions and celebrate the profound strength that comes from vulnerability.

Growing up in a region known for its deep-rooted traditions and artistic heritage, Olumide developed a profound appreciation for the arts, music, and entertainment from an early age. Olumide Ajayi infuses a shade of blue colour into his painting because it reduces the stress he feels from living in his head and the raging conversations that go on in his head all the time.
