About the Item
Native-born Americans rarely experience the remarkable hopefulness and energy that can come with the privilege of U.S. citizenship, especially when it’s granted after birth elsewhere. And yet, one can sense such emotions in this bright, colorful abstract work by Paul Seckel (1918-2013), where the only recognizable element is a glimpse of the Stars and Stripes.

Born in Osnabrück, Germany, Seckel moved to the United States and became a citizen. Here, he earned a B.F.A. at the University of Buffalo and a M.F.A. at Yale University, after studying at the London Central School of Art
Crafts. His career encompassed not only fine art in works like this, but also lithographs, advertising art and even cartoons. His work was exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in 1956, The Flint Institute of Art in 1957 and at The American Academy of Arts
Letters in 1963. The New York Times characterized Seckel as a "painter of eclectic vision." Given the artist's journey, it’s a viewpoint that is particularly relevant today.

A Mendocino Artist
s Abstract “Ode to Day”
Located in San Francisco, CA
Subtle but vibrant, this abstraction of a hibiscus in brilliant yellow is framed by a cluster of bird of paradise blooms in the shady foreground—the latter simplified into bursts of the plant’s renown color duo. Bring a garden inside without the watering and weeding. Nice.

Forgot 7
By Frank Arnold
Located in Fresno, CA
"Forgot 7" Oil on Canvas features an abstract form surrounded by characters and a surreal landscape. The canvas is painted with shades of green, blue, yellow, and white.
Frank Arnold is viewed as one of the foremost abstract figurative painters and sculptors of our time. He is a living master guided by a personal mission to “turn on a light in the human soul,” through his passionate creation of “Messengers” from his deeper mind connection with Carl Jung's archetypal images, the collective unconscious, and Jungian Synchronicity. These unconscious forms from his deeper mind resonate as personal messages of universal acceptance, reaching out to the viewer.
Arnold has been honored as IAD Artist of the year 2018 by International Artist Day, and 2013 FAC Horizon Artist Award. He has exhibited his artwork in numerous galleries and museums and is in collections worldwide. Arnold divides his working days between oil painting in San Jose del Cabo, Baja Sur...
