Tasmanian-born artist Shane Drinkwater harnesses his interest in ancient manuscripts, cartography and astronomy to produce abstract artworks of mystery and beauty.
All of Shane's artworks are Untitled and measure approximately 20x20" (50x50 cm). This piece is professionally framed in black wood with UV glass, with the artwork mounted with earth magnets so as not to interfere with the paper. The size with frame is 30x30" (76x76 cm).
Using acrylic paint on reclaimed paper – dressmaker’s pattern sheets or dyed parchments – his visual vocabulary of dots and dashes, spheres and numbers render his vision as highly coded maps of cosmic systems, secret alphabets and magic symbols.
From Shane – “I paint with a minimum of visual elements, aiming for maximum visual intensity. Ideas and images appear in the making of the work. Language becomes unnecessary.”
Shane Drinkwater was born in Tasmania, Australia. He studied at the University of Tasmania, School of Art, Hobart and the National Art School in Sydney, Australia. Widely travelled, including artist residencies in Europe, his work has been shown throughout Australia, Scandinavia, Europe and North America. The gallery is honored to represent Shane Drinkwater in Canada.
