About the painting:
Jardin d’Automne is Shizico Yi’s latest series of studies of late summer flora from her garden. Preserving the final vibrant days of the summer into mid autumn, she continues painting en plein air.
For Shizico, Gladioluses are easy to grow, they blooms fiercely and with no trouble at all to care for, yet contribute so much to the garden in late summer when all other flowers fail; for her, Gladioluses embody confidence, no fuss, no-nonsense-attitude toward life
This series becomes both tribute and document of life’s passing moments. Through painting, she is bringing the landscape alive on canvas, season by season. These flora paintings are gentle reminder of impermanence of time.

In this series, she also explores the dialogue of primary colours—in this painting, it is a close study of red. This painting is also a part of 3 sisters series, a celebration of womanhood and sisterhood inspired by artist's life with her family.

Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday.
