With strokes of Gold, Oil, Gesso and Acrylic, Shizico orchestrates a abstract expression in this on-going series [Landscape Memories]; it's a part of her [Sunlit Series] where she developed and explored with all sorts of mediums with Yellow, in this case, gold leaf gilding brushstrokes layered with the landscape and skyscape of her homes and gardens on paintings in this series.
Shizico's unique approach to paintings in this series by rewriting the landscape in the background with her bold strokes of gold leaf on the top layers. This concept of distraction becomes an integral part of the artwork exemplifies Shizico Yi's artistic vision.
The Series is a profound exploration of captivating yellow/gold leaf. Yellow is a colour she believes has the healing power for those afflicted by grief.
The golden hues engage in a dialogue with the layers of landscape in the background. The interplay of these contrasting elements ( the textured surface of gold leaves against the oil paint of the landscape) adds another layer of fascination.
The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject (the deeper meaning of the landscape and the memories), and with the artist-self.

Dr. Shizico Yi is a London based artist, working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday.
