[To make a garden ] is a part of her "Landscape Memory" Series. Shizico explores forms, layers, and time onto canvases.
In this outstanding painting, Shizico applied layers of materials ( Gold leaf, Oil, Acrylic and Gesso ) to create lyrical narratives, capturing the play of light across different moments of the day over many days.
Yi has captured light's nuances throughout the days in one canvas, condensed 100s of hours into one moment.
With her unique, confident and expressive brushstrokes, Yi captured the essence of her garden with an enchanting charm that made her paintings beyond mere botanical representation.
Dahlias bloom from late summer into November, which brings the autumn months with flora splendour, Shizico Yi found solace amidst these late flowers in the garden, where she brought them to life on canvas during the chill colder months, to Shizico, Dahlias are the symbol of resilience, hope and longevity.
Landscape Memory series invites viewers to journey through time as Yi explores how light and colours shape our experiences, growth, seasons, and ageing.

Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday.
