About the Item
The paintings draw upon late-summer blooms and trees from Shizico’s own garden—gladiolus, dahlias, and elderberry. Red tones carry the warmth of maternal love, while yellow brings the paintings back to her Sunlit Series, where she has long explored the healing power of yellow.
Painted en plein air over the course of 2 weeks marked by rain, wind, and fleeting sunshine, the works embody Shizico’s embrace of the elements. Rather than resist the weather, she allowed it to guide the rhythm of each canvas.
Three Sisters-gladiolus, dahlias, and elderberry is a deeply personal tribute by Shizico Yi to her two beloved cousin-sisters, with whom she was brought up with by her grandmother. After sixteen years apart from the eldest, the three were finally reunited in 2025, though through the event of a family loss. This triptych honours the enduring closeness of their sisterhood, the bound unaffected by the distance of space and time.
These triptych are a sensual interplay with the celebration of colour and a reflection of three women’s lifelong triumphs over the nature of the highs and lows in life.

Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday.
