Taher Jaoui (b. 1978) is a French Neo-Abstract Expressionist painter, born in Tunisia and currently based in Germany. Jaoui graduated from Sorbonne University in Paris in 2007 with degrees in Mathematics and Engineering, an education that informs his compositions by blending formulas and calculations with abstract forms and colors. His inspirations include abstract expressionism, cartoons, graffiti, street art, and primitivism, combined with his personal experiences.
Jaoui’s work mixes painting and drawing in both abstract and figurative styles. His colorful compositions stimulate viewers' emotions and imagination, allowing for personal interpretations. Despite having no formal art education, his artistic practice is influenced by African art, graffiti, glitch art, the COBRA art movement, and the post-war abstract expressionism of the 1950s and 60s. His canvases feature a range of elements, from simple patterns to chalkboard-like scribbles, becoming a workspace for his expressive methods.
Jaoui’s art combines a full palette of color and texture, using oil, enamel, spray paint, and charcoal on raw canvas. Through laborious layering and reworking of compositions, he constructs a visceral experience that captures the physical energy of each piece. His works are rich assemblages of layered forms, vibrant colors, expressive gestures, and mathematical signs and formulas. His artistic practice is a source of confidence and peace, with each finished piece documenting the process of achieving those feelings.

Taher Jaoui was born in Tunis, Tunisia and currently lives and works between Paris and Berlin. His work has already been exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions across Europe, Africa and the USA.
