About the Item
This abstract diptych by Teodora Guererra features a light coastal palette of blue, white, and sandy beige. The artist layers loose strokes of paint using a palette knife over the canvas, creating movement in the composition and lightly textured finish on the surface. Each painting in this diptych measures 24" x 24" x 1.5" each, with the painting wrapping around the sides of each canvas. Each painting is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas, and are ready to hang.
Teodora Guererra’s abstract works are deeply shaped by her travels across the United States and abroad. Her time living in Arizona sparked a love for the region’s radiant landscape and arid climate, inspiring her to explore vibrant color palettes and richly layered underpainting. Later, the shifting seasons of the East Coast influenced her to develop gestural, textural techniques—most notably her signature dripping and palette knife applications.
In her most recent series, Guererra continues to explore the emotional resonance of texture and color. Working in thick impasto, she creates meditative compositions that evoke nature’s quiet power. Love Letter, with its layered whites and soft undertones, captures fleeting moments and the whisper of memory, while Layered builds a grounded intensity through tonal bands of blue and grey—suggestive of seascapes or shifting skies. These works reflect her ongoing commitment to material experimentation and an intuitive response to light, movement, and atmosphere.
Throughout her career, Guererra has drawn inspiration from artists such as Pat Steir, Joan Mitchell, Larry Poons, Helen Frankenthaler, and Morris Louis. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art from Southern Connecticut State University, The College of Saint Rose, and Skidmore College. Her paintings are part of numerous public and private collections across the U.S., including the Allmen Health and Wellness Center for Women in New York, SUNY Brockport, and Williams-Sonoma in San Francisco.
“My work is rooted in the physical act of painting. Using palette knives, brushes and thick paint, I build dense, textured surfaces that are as much about the process as the composition. The work allows me to express what is felt rather than seen - gesture becomes language, and layers become memory.
Place deeply informs my work. Living in the expansive desert landscapes of Arizona, I first began experimenting with bold color and saturated light. Later, on the East Coast, I became captivated by the atmospheric shifts of the seasons and developed a more layered, emotive approach. My recent paintings are shaped by these contrasting environments—quiet but tactile, restrained yet expressive”.

Teodora Guererra
Teodora Guererra’s abstract artistic vision has evolved throughout her years spent painting and teaching in Fairfield County, Connecticut; Tucson, Arizona, and upstate New York. Arizona’s naturally radiant landscape and arid climate led her to experiment with rich under-painting and vivid color; while the shifting seasons of the East Coast inspired Guererra to pursue dripping and staining techniques. Her focus has always been pushing the limits in her paintings through experimentation with new materials.
“As an artist, painting can be tormenting and sublime at the same time," Guererra says of her work. "I'm a big risk taker, experimenting with different materials to layer, stain and saturate color on large canvases. My most successful work achieves a sense of fluid movement with saturated color, that is complex yet minimalistic. The end result should be a painting that dances across the canvas and quiets all the noise.”
Guererra received her undergraduate and graduate art degrees from Southern Connecticut University, the College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College. Her paintings can be found in public and private collections across the U.S., including the Allmen Health and Wellness Center for Women in New York and SUNY Brockport, NY, Williams-Sonoma, San Francisco, CA. Her influences are Pat Steir, John McCracken, Helen Frankenthaler, Donald Judd, Bernar Venet, Agnes Martin and Brian Rutenberg.

Janet Jennings is known for her luminous oil & watercolor paintings. After working for Lawrence Rubin at Knoedler Contemporary Art, Jennings maintained a studio at Waverly Studios in New York City. She began as a Color Field painter, working on canvas and linen. Janet moved to Amagansett, NY in 1981 and switched her focus to landscape painting. Her career path led her to teach at The Parrish Art Museum, Guild Hall & The Victor D’amico Institute of Art. From 1993 to 1998, she was the Chair of the Andy Warhol Visual Arts Preserve Program. Jennings maintains ties to the art community as an educator and curator. She is a member of the East Hampton Arts Council, an advocacy group for performing and visual artists of East Hampton. Ms. Jennings maintains a painting studio in East Hampton and currently teaches oil and watercolor classes. In 1997, she was a founding member of CMEE, The Children’s Museum of the East End. Working with Lee Skolnick and JoAnn Secor, she was an exhibit designer and fabricator for “Time and Place, Light and Space”, the initial installation at Guild Hall, which launched CMEE. She was a lead designer for the permanent exhibition installation of CMEE, located in Bridgehampton, NY. Jennings received her BFA from the University of Dayton and attended The Dayton Art Institute, Antioch College and The Art Students League.
