Inland Crossing 35
By Hyunmee Lee
Located in Salt Lake City, UT
The gestural paintings of Hyunmee Lee are sumptuously minimal. Rich forms advance from buttery canvases like an abstract garden. Gauzy veils of paint hover like soft air against the ebony weight of matter. Light peeks through translucent shapes like sunlight illuminating soft mist. Texture swirls and echoes across the canvas as if carved by waves or eroded by the wind. The viewer, invited into a realm of contemplation and meditation, is surprised to look away and see the physical world existing in only three dimensions. But perhaps that is precisely the experience the artist would like the viewer to have.
In her current exhibition, Touch, on display at the Phillips Gallery...

Black on White
By Enrico Benetta
Located in Miami, FL
"Black on White" is a painting created by Enrico Benetta in 2010. This piece can be hung by itself, or be considered as part of a diptych with "White on Black". The painting comes unframed, with a total dimension of 28" x 59" x 5".
This piece was made with acrylic paint, gesso, and corten steel - the signature materials that Benetta has become known for. Thanks to his excellent skills, the artist uses unconventional media to create truly unique artworks, that take the viewer to an aerial, restless dimension - despite the opposite nature of those materials.

He studied Fine Arts in Venice, and his work has been featured in more than 25 exhibitions in the recent years, in addition to his collaboration with brands like Hermes...

"Au détour"
Laque sur toile
130 x 97 cm
2022
Born in Granville, France, on April 14, 1968, François Benoît-Lison began with a figurative approach, which gradually evolved into abstraction, first lyrical, then more contrasting, where black reigns supreme. Black is a sacred color, sometimes dark, sometimes dazzling, without limits, it can be dominant or gentle.
After acrylics and oils, bituminous pastes and inks opened another door, that of the abstract, much more profound and contemporary, with the possibility of working these materials in many aspects and forms.
Since the 1980s, the artist has been offering us works imbued with research, reflection and philosophy, charged with a strong, raw message, highlighting his thoughts and leaving an indelible imprint.
Abstraction is his adventure, his freedom, his struggle, his dreams, his rage, his solitude.
Works by Jackson Pollock, Caravaggio, Egon Schiele, Pierre Soulages and André Marfaing...
