A large and very striking mid-century geometric abstract composition, painted in oil in 1955 by the established Swedish artist Bror Ingemar Fröberg (1921-1999), whose artworks have been represented in the Moderna Museum in Stockholm and the Sörmland Museum.
The painting is built from a dynamic network of interlocking shapes and angled planes. Triangles, diamonds, and irregular quadrilaterals converge and diverge across the canvas, creating a sense of movement that feels architectural. Though non-representational, the arrangement evokes rhythm, structure, and balance.
Executed in a geometric abstract style, the work relies on strong linear boundaries and clearly defined colour fields. The composition feels meticulously plotted, yet there is a softness to some of the edges that lends a human, hand-painted warmth. The overlapping forms create layers of depth and subtle spatial tension, typical of mid-century abstraction.
The colour palette is earthy and muted, and these grounded tones harmonise beautifully together. The balance of darker masses against lighter areas adds contrast and energy.
The brushwork is confident and deliberate, with solid blocks of colour applied in smooth, even strokes. Slight variations in texture and faint visible brush trails keep the surface engaging
