Jerusalem Landscape by Zvi Livni Frame: 25.5" X 31.5" Image: 17.5 X 23.5" Zvi Livni was born in the town of Lodz in Poland, and commenced his artistic education at the Art Academy in Warsaw. He came to Israel as a young man. Here he lived for many years in a kibbutz and was one of the founders of the artist group of the Kibbutz Artzi. He left Israel on several occasions in order to continue his studies and spent much time in the 1930's in Germany, France and Italy. Worked in lithograph printing and oil painting. Paintings at: President's Residence, Jerusalem,Museum of Art, Toronto, Boston University Museum. A founder of the Artists' Quarter, Safed. From 1953 lived in Safed. He was among the founders of the famous Israeli Artists' Colony in Safed, where he lives and works most of the year and where he exhibits at a permanent one-man show. He has also achieved a reputation as illustrator of various books and illuminator of Passover Haggadot. His paintings are to be found in many museums and well-known private collections in Israel, U.S.A., Canada and Europe, including the Residence of the President of the State of Israel, Jerusalem; the Museum of Art in Toronto, Canada; the Museum of Modern Art, Brandeis University, Boston; the Museum of Art, Yale University, New Haven; the Brooklyn Museum, New York. Hanna Ben Dov is an Israeli abstract painter who was born in Jerusalem in 1919 and died in Paris in 2008. Ben Dov's father, Yacov Ben-Dov, was a famous Israeli photographer who founded the photography department in the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 1910. Hannah herself attended Bezalel during the 1940s, and later continued to Camberwell College of Arts in London. After the completion of her formal education she moved to Paris, where she exhibited for the first time in 1948 and has been living and working there since, as a part of the local abstract artists school. She took part in the first French Biennale of 1951, that was held in Menton. Collections Her paintings can be found in several collections, including the French State Collection, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art collection, the Bezalel National Museum collection in Jerusalem and the Rockefeller Museum collection in New York. Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern-day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is a euphoria that affects the deep recesses of consciousness. As is the experience of the sublime, Kang's work is largely abstract. This colorful horizontal artwork is 42 inches high by 30 inches wide. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be a molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world.
