This 1971 oil on board landscape by Y. Melo presents an abstracted natural scene executed in a refined Cubist style. The composition flattens and segments a hillside view into interlocking planes of earth tones and soft blues, creating a rhythmic arrangement of simplified tree forms and distant mountains.
The treatment is highly architectural: foliage and landmass are rendered as overlapping ellipses, arcs, and angular volumes. Vertical trunks and limbs sweep across the picture plane, acting as compositional scaffolding and establishing a dynamic contrast against the rounded, volumetric forms.
