About the Item
Long time ago, on the shores of Greece lived the lovers Ceyx and Alcyone, descendants of the gods of wind and sea. They were happy, but fate intervened: Ceyx set off on a journey to an oracle, promising to return in two months. Alcyone prayed to the gods, believing he would return. But Poseidon, doubting their love, created a storm, and Ceyx's ship was wrecked, killing him. Morpheus appeared to Alcyone in a dream, telling her of the tragedy. In disbelief, she rushed to the sea, but saw only the lifeless body of her beloved. Unable to bear the pain, having lost everything she held dear in this life, Alcyone threw herself into the sea to embrace her beloved one last time. But as she approached him, a miracle occurred. The gods spared her grief and transformed Alcyone and Ceyx into birds—kingfishers—so that they could be together forever. The gods also bestowed upon them another gift: every year, for seven days during winter, they calmed the sea and wind so that Alcyone could hatch her eggs in peace. These days were called the Alcyonides—days of serenity and happiness. And Alcyone herself became considered an eternal symbol of fidelity and devotion.
The paint is made in author's technique of painting by Vasili Zianko based acrylic painting on canvas using a variety of textures, washes, the finest glazing, volumetric contour readable for blind and visually impaired people by touch.

Vasili Zianko was born in 1977,Belarus.2006 Graduated from Belarusian State Academy of Arts.Since 2019 - Chairman of the monumental art section Belarusian Artist Union.Authors pieces are original view of interaction humanity and nature.Personal technique is based on painting with acrylic on canvas with different textures, thinnest glazing, volumetric outlines.Since 1995 participates regional and international exhibitions. Conducted more than 10 personal projects in Minsk ,Warshaw, Vienna, Vitebsk, Moscow, Paris.In 2018 ”And by feeling to see..." unique art-project for blind and visually impaired people had started, it is the first inclusive art-project and important step to creating bounderless environment in Belarus.Creative background of the artist includes major monumental projects in Belarus also.Zianko's art-works belong to Contemporary Art collections of National Art Museum of Belarus, National Modern Arts Museum of Belarus and others., Museum of Russian Art (New York, USA) and private collections of Austria, Belarus, Germany, USA, Norway, Russia, Poland,Turkey, France.
