Adja Yunkers , latvian born , lived the peripatetic life that belies the calm lyricism of his abstract paintings.
When Yunkers exhibited in the Museum of American Art in 1972 (the same year this painting was created), renowned art critic John Canaday wrote in The New York Times: ''He has been a steady presence confirming the wisdom of taking your time, thinking things out and allowing sensitivities to mature rather than depending on the gush of something passing for inspiration.'' His artwork was known to possess a “lyrical quality”, choosing harmonious colors that balanced each other perfectly.
His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art-NYC, the Corcoran Gallery of Art-Washington DC, MOMA-NYC and the Brooklyn Museum of Art-NYC, among others.

Adja Yunkers
Adja Yunkers was an American abstract painter and printmaker. He was born in Riga, Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire in 1900. Yunkers studied art in Leningrad, Berlin, Paris and London. He lived in Paris for 14 years and then moved to Stockholm in 1939. In Stockholm, he published and edited the art magazines ARS magazine and Creation magazine. Yunkers died in New York City in 1983.
