About the Item

"The Unknown," (2022) by wildlife artist Alexis Kandra is an oil painting gilded with metal foil on wood panel, measuring 36" X 36". Her newest piece, the painting features an earthy landscape appointed with beautiful wildlife -- a rooster, a bull frog, a pidgeon / dove, white horses, red robin birds, bumble bees and the central animal is a black unicorn. In the skyscape in the background is a rainbow and a bolt of lightning. The landscape features a rocky foreground with a shallow collection of water, where the unicorn stands and the birds splash. The golden rolling hills appear in the background of the landscape. The flora and fauna and the landscape itself are all beautifully rendered and fit under the rubric of contemporary realism, save the mythical unicorn. Alexis loves to work with intersecting grids and planes, in which the sentient beings and natural elements pull on the fabric of space and time as demonstrated by the waveforms in the grid work that surrounds them. The juxtaposition and layering of scenes, the saturated color palettes, the computer graphic style grid systems and the metallic foils give her work a surrealistic quality. There is a glowing prismatic orb that surrounds the creatures and the landscape in which they live. The scene feels peaceful, evoking a reverence and honoring of the sacred quality of nature. The palette herein is saturated and rich with vivid warm sunset colors. Included are multiple shades of blue and purple -- periwinkle, aqua, navy, sky blue, black, pale blue, lavender. Earthy tones include gold, yellow, ochre, terracotta, red clay. Pop surrealism, contemporary painting Framing available Certificate of Authenticity available
