About the Item

Christmas special! On sale for a short time only. Beautiful and impressive large original vintage oil painting, 38" by 50" in a beautifully presented frame, after one of the most renowned animal painters of the late 18th century/early 19th century. Presented in large and ornate vintage gilt frame. The painting of these dogs by Charles Schwanfelder was sold by Sotheby’s in April 2016 for more than $20,000 (more than 16,000 GBP), in a much smaller size. Purchasing this hand-painted aged rendering of the Schwanfelder work provides excellent value for a larger piece with a show-stopping quality frame. Charles Henry Schwanfelder (1774-1837) became the Court Animal Painter for Kings George III and George IV. He exhibited regularly in the Royal Academy and his work is held in galleries and museums including the National Trust. Beautifully framed, this work has a high impact. In overall excellent condition, no issues or re-touching noted, ready to hang! Possible initials lower right, though this is being sold as unsigned and undated, with provenance to a collector in the Midwest, purchased from a large collection of original 19th century art. Likely British in origin. This will make an impact at a fraction of the cost of the original 1800 painting by this artist. This painting is previously owned and part of a larger collection. . Excellent value for a painting of this size and historical association. Painting has a papered backing and hanging wire, ready to hang!
