About the Item
Edwin Loder – son of famous artist James Loder – originally enlisted in the 62nd Regiment of Foot in 1846 at the age of 19, serving mainly in India.
After 20 years in the Forces, Edwin was discharged unfit and was required to attend the Royal Chelsea Hospital as an outpatient.
Returning to Bath, Somerset to set up a studio in Widcombe, Edwin Loader’s portfolio of recorded works is dated between 1850 and 1885 and specializes in 19th-century farm animal paintings of cattle and dogs as well as sporting paintings of hunters.
This example is signed Fritz, which was a pseudo name Loder used on some of his paintings.
This is a very high-quality example of the artist's work. He has captured the light on the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel perfectly.
The painting has been framed in an Antique English gold leaf frame.
