NOTES: Haydn Cornner began to concentrate on painting in the early 1980s and also began a successful career as an illustrator - clients including BBC, Penguin Books, The Independent and The New Yorker. He has exhibited with the famous Portal Gallery London (where these were originally purchased according to the last vendor). He has had 5 solo shows with Portal and he exhibits at all the major art fairs. In 2004 Hayden exhibited with Portal at the Edinburgh Festival. Portal Painters have been exhibiting finely detailed paintings by a unique group of artists for over 50 years and continue to do so.

DETAIL: Painter, stained glass artist and illustrator, born in Cowbridge, Glamorgan. Was married in 1906 to the artist Gertrude Alice Meredith Williams, who died in 1934. He studied at Slade School of Fine Art and in Italy and France. During World War I he served in the Army in France and completed work based on his Somme front experiences. Work by Williams and his wife is at the Scottish National War Museum in Edinburgh. He painted widely in France and showed in Liverpool and elsewhere, sometimes signing as M M Williams.

Notes: Painter, notably in watercolour, and printmaker, gallery owner and teacher, born in Darvel, Ayrshire. Graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1959, some years later taking a higher diploma in art. Taylor made a big impact on the Scottish gallery scene when in 1963 he opened the New Charing Cross Gallery in Glasgow, giving young artists a chance to exhibit more adventurous work. Taylor had a long association with the Glasgow Print Studio as senior technician. In 1977, with Ainslie Yule, he was recommended by Scottish Arts Council for a residency at Editions Alecto to work on a screenprint. Taylor’s own work could sometimes have a strong polemical element, notably regarding war and the nuclear threat. As well as taking part in many group shows across Europe he was a regular solo exhibitor.
