John Bucknell Russell (1820-1893) lived in Scotland and was initially a house painter, but honed his craft to become well known for his wildlife and fish paintings. He was a skilled woodcarver and the pioneer of fish plaques that commemorated the Spey salmon caught by his patrons. In addition, he completed an altar painting for St. Mary's Chapel, Aberdeen, and interiors for Haddow House, and Kelly Castle.
