About the Item

Juan F. Sepulveda The Goat Realism oil 36" x 36" Oil on canvas gallery wrapped . No need for frame. Available to ship after 1/5/2026. Juan F. Sepulveda has always been attracted animals with horns. Goats and sheep are almost animals in abstraction. Their heads can be oddly shaped and vary widely in their horns, fur, and eyes. They possess unique personalities. Artist Bio Juan F. Sepulveda is a Mexican-born artist based in Aurora, Illinois. His artistic journey began at a young age and has evolved from graphite drawings to pastels, ultimately developing into a deep passion for oil painting. While studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Juan experimented with color, composition, and various mediums, further refining his artistic vision. Juan is currently working on two distinct painting series. Nostalgia is a figurative collection that blends modern art elements, vibrant colors, and floral motifs on large canvases. The second series focuses on traditional depictions of farm animals, particularly sheep and goats. A long-time resident of Aurora, Juan is inspired by the city’s diverse community, especially its youth. He has volunteered his time to teach drawing at a local elementary school and the public library, sharing his artistic expertise and engaging with the community. Biography Juan F. Sepulveda II was born in 1986 in the city of Ocotlan, Mexico. By the age of three his family had immigrated to the United States where they resided in San Fernando, California. Later the Sepulveda family moved to Illinois where they settled in the city of Aurora. It is in Aurora where Juan grew up and discovered his love for the arts. Juan is a graduate from The Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in painting. At present Juan is working on ideas and paintings that portray the satirical and humoristic aspect of life. He uses the human figure or portrait to express concepts that can be universal and at times harsh and blunt. Juan’s last set of paintings dealt with a darker mindset and color palette. Traveling has always been a passion and dream for Juan. When as a child, Juan imagined a life of exploration and adventure finding an escape in his art and the images of National Geographic Magazine. Now at the age of 25 Juan has traveled to South America, Central America, Europe, South East Asia and throughout the United States and Canada. Juan hopes to further visit and experience different cultures and environments in order to expand his knowledge of life and thus mature as an artist. Juan has been focusing on the figure in his works. He uses this universal subject to portray the beauty and horrid aspects of humanity. His paintings evoke a sense of drama and even a comedic poise that dwells with satire and innocence.

Virtue of Knowledge, oil painting, Texas artist, Realistic painting
Located in Houston, TX
Virtue of Knowledge reexamines portraits of individuals throughout history to illustrate the premise that history flows into the present in an ever-changing state. And, with each new context, we view people and events through a contemporary lens specific to that moment. Virtue of Knowledge appropriates and contextualizes original portrait elements to create reinvented portraits using technique and patterning that brings a contemporary context and perspective to these historically inspired portraits STATEMENT History flows into the present in an ever-changing state. And, with each new context, we view people and events through a contemporary lens specific to that moment. My current body of work, Contemporary Histories, explores this phenomena by re-interpreting historical portraiture using a contemporary visual language. It is my intent to create a modern visual lens through which to view these individuals and their legacies, as they continue to flow into the present in ever-changing states. As a keen example of how history changes and morphs over time, I have selected portraits of women who chose an alternate path from the traditional ones prescribed in their times. Some of these individuals overtly stepped outside the traditional roles prescribed for women to realize their goals. Others astutely maneuvered within the social system they lived in to obtain their aspirations. Whether altruistic or nefarious, these women and their actions altered the future cultural landscape. Through a 21st century lens, we view them as women with minds of their own, who made choices to control their own lives and futures. Often, in stark contrast to how they were viewed and how their actions were recorded in their own times. For a modern visual language, a combination of fine and decorative arts has inspired my approach to this subject. Employing several formal contemporary tenets, most notably, rather than place the figure in a 3-dimensional space, as in the originals, the figures reside in flat graphic picture planes of damask designs, repetitive patterns or botanical grounds as modern settings for their modern legacies. These graphic backgrounds symbolize what was historically considered a woman’s proper domain, in particular, gardening and needle crafts, such as; quilting, embroidery and sewing. Formally, unlike the originals, I am working alla prima, rather than with a base grisaille and delicate layers of glazing. While, the patterned and botanical environments, along with gold leaf applications, contemporary compositions and color palettes are formally influenced by a spectrum of 19th - 21st century artists and artisans; from Gustav Klimt and the Wiener Werkstatte to Henri Rousseau, Tamara de Lempicka and Will Cotton. "Lamb", Oil on Canvas
By Renata Palubinskas
Located in Detroit, MI
This "Lamb" painting vibrantly pops with hyper-realistic color. It depicts a highly detailed lamb standing in against a blue background. Could it be an empty room? Could it be the sky? "Lamb" has a sweet look with its slight smile and holding a cute pink flower. Its awash in a cartoonish blue with clouds and cloudy farm animals. This pairs with the cow painting but is sold separately. Renata Palubinskas was born in 1968 in Kaunas, Lithuania, at the time still in the Soviet Union as the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. She received her diploma in Fine Art and Restoration from St. Zukas Technium of Applied Arts in 1989. After working at the M.K. Ciurlionis State Museum of Art, she emigrated to the United States in the 1990s, basing herself in Detroit. Renata's work rethinks historic iconography while intentionally addressing the modern world through a new perspective. The characters in her paintings are often caught between the struggle of good and evil. That struggle represents the choice of trying to obtain immediate gratification or realization of the self, and the haunting life experiences with latent possibilities for death. Renata uses schematic compositions with purposefully positioned figures and other visual elements. To attract attention to the most significant figures, she often ornate their garments with intricate patterns. They are typically placed in either a serene landscape or an interior setting with a threatening presence around them. Her work has been exhibited in Collected Detroit...
