About the Item

Winter Snow Scene with Pheasants with Golden Sky by 20th Century German Artist, Ludwig Schöngarth German 1937-2003  Art measures 36 x 24 inches Frame measures 40 x 28 inches This stunning original painting by Ludvig Schöngarth captures the serene beauty of a winter landscape bathed in golden light. Three pheasants forage peacefully in the snow-covered foreground, while a majestic tree, its branches dusted with snow, frames the composition. The artist masterfully balances warm and cool tones, rich amber hues contrast with the crisp white of the snow, evoking a sense of both tranquility and vitality. The depth in this piece is remarkable, with a softly lit horizon drawing the eye into the distance, where rolling fields and a rustic fence fade into a dreamy winter haze. Schöngarth’s attention to detail, from the delicate texture of the snow to the soft glow filtering through the trees, creates an inviting, nostalgic atmosphere. This painting would make an exquisite focal point in any home, evoking the quiet beauty of nature and the peaceful stillness of a winter’s day. The warm undertones make it particularly well-suited for spaces where you want to create a cozy, refined ambiance. The golden hues in the sky, combined with the soft diffused light, suggest a dusk scene rather than dawn. The warmth of the fading sunlight filtering through the trees, along with the long shadows and gentle glow, creates the perfect setting for the quiet conclusion of a winter’s day. Peter has an absolute love of oil painting and especially admires the masters of Dutch Painting of the 17th Century, which is reflected in his own work. Since 1995, after seeing the work of Estonian artist Olav Maran, Peter decided to review his paintings and started researching ‘Still Life’ painters such as Willem Kalf and De Heem. After experimenting with priming his own panels and canvases with different colours, then painting with thick and thin paint and glazing on top, in the way of the old masters, he has developed a style with detail and atmosphere that is essential in his portrayal of fine wine, fruit and cheeses etc. In a quirky and sometimes conceptual world, Peter makes no apologies for producing traditional subjects where the craftsmanship is evident in every brushstroke. His paintings bring much joy and pleasure to those who understand he has an obvious and underlying love of handling paint and observing his subject using techniques that take many years to acquire. Recently he has changed the view point for some of his paintings, to give them a bold contemporary look. Peter Kotka...
