About the Item

The subtext of the work points to two types of personal involvement: - blindly following mass ideas, which often lead to undesirable consequences; - independent choice and the ability to think outside of established patterns, refusing to follow the crowd. This work gives us the opportunity to reflect on the fact that “paradise” is different for everyone, and that mindlessly following someone else's path can be dangerous! Follow your call, achieve your goals, go your own way! This work was part of a solo exhibition in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2025.

The Life Lesson, Painting, Acrylic on Canvas
By Amy Bernays
Located in Yardley, PA
Somehow it is easier to overpopulate a little painting and get away with it that in a big canvas. This little painting is crowded with life. The menagerie is my daughter’s depiction of her world, the animals within it. It is blued together with the depiction of a small crowd of children looking at the precious thing. We can half make out their forms. Still a little undefined, as things are when you are only half grown up. I like to paint the happy in life. Looking for those thoughts or moments that bring me joy and define my life. I paint my children. Not just their visage, but their being. Their play, their imaginative world as well as their real world. In this series I have the kids paint...

Maybe the horrendous can be okay?
By Jenny Day
Located in New Orleans, LA
Retreating from the stress and chaos of the last year, I created another landscape; populated by an army of friendly creatures. Here the burdens of coronavirus, climate change, and political division are dismissed by hot pink kittens that arc gracefully through meter showers and owls that bury into beds of daffodils. In this place worry is edged out by the fantastic and mystical snails trail neon candy canes through the scorched earth. The apocalyptic is supplanted by the surreal and the allegorical. Anxiety followed me. The escapist reflects and distorts its shadow world, the real, a funhouse mirror...
