Stunning example and unusual in the sensitivity of the dogs pensiveness not normally associated with high functioning hunting dogs. Before the dogs are items of the hunt. To right, is the monogram of the artist P. M. Guillemain (Guillemin, alternative spelling). The style bridges the divide somewhere between the stout Romanticism of the period and burgeoning movement towards Realism.
P. M. Guillemain (French, 1800-1874) was painter and decorator of fine porcelains at the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres located in Southwestern suburbs in Paris. Sèvres is one of the principal European porcelain factories. It was founded in 1740 and has been owned by the French government since 1759.
Guillemain was is not widely known for his paintings though he was clearly a painter of immense skill
