Description of the artwork
This striking composition depicts a dark-skinned woman adorned with golden jewelry, bone necklaces, and an elaborate headdress of black and white feathers, seated confidently between two majestic white tigers. The protagonist’s serene and penetrating gaze is paired with the protective, untamed strength of the felines, balancing royalty, sensuality, and power.
The color treatment combines the softness of cool tones in the tigers and background with warm highlights in the golden details, creating a chromatic harmony that enhances the mystical atmosphere. Artist biography
Rodolfo Ramírez Cardo was born in Havana, Cuba. He studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro (1970–1971) and pursued Art History at the José Martí Institute of Journalism (1997–1998). His training is partly academic and partly self-taught, which has allowed him to develop a personal style with remarkable attention to detail.
Throughout his career, he has received several awards, including First Prize at the Jornada Cucalambeana (1985 and 2000) and the Vedaste Acosta Contest (2000), as well as honorable mentions in national competitions. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Cuba, including at Galería Habana and emblematic hotels in Havana. His work includes portraits, genre scenes, and symbolically charged compositions, characterized by technical virtuosity that blends realism with decorative elements.
