About the Item

This large figurative oil painting is a reinterpretation of the statue in the Musei Capitolini in Rome, Equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, 161 - 180 AD. A unique oil painting on the finest quality Belgian Linen™ canvas. **FREE SHIPPING** Due to its large size, this painting will be shipped rolled to minimize shipping costs. The painting is shipped rolled up without stretcher bars. This method is especially safe for large works. Rolled works can be easily stretched (for canvas works, i.e. placed onto wooden stretcher bars) and/or framed by a local framer upon arrival. Title, year, medium and size: Man on horseback (31.12.25), 2025, oil on linen canvas, 180 x 220 cm (After the statue in the Musei Capitolini, Roma, Equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, 161 - 180 AD) The painting is by Dutch contemporary artist and art teacher Rubins J. Spaans. His artworks are held in numerous private, corporate and public collections. The painting is signed on the front and signed and dated verso. Rubins’s paintings evoke nostalgia for classical, romantic scenes and periods, an art that is about imagination, history and emotion. His paintings represent his ongoing research into the different ways of applying and understanding painting. They are reinterpretations of paintings and drawings by the Old Masters and of European painters from the 19th and 20th centuries. His works include portraits of his friends and the horses in the valley where he works and lives. Rubins lives and works in Alp, a small mountain village in the Spanish Pyrenees. He is classically trained in the techniques of the Old Masters, and yet he has remained the street painter he was at the beginning of his painting career in Barcelona.
