About the Item
19th century English Antique oil portrait of a Terrier dog in an interior
Earl was the brother of George Earl and the uncle of Maud Earl and Percy Earl. He was a popular painter of dogs and exhibited often in London between 1836 and 1885 including 47 works at the Royal Academy. He also exhibited over 100 paintings at the British Institute and at Sussex Street.
The quality of the painting is evident in the brush strokes, skill in paintings the eyes, and the overall balance and composition of the painting.
The dogs fur is so expertly painted and the faces of the Dogs have such charm that the painting is a must for any collection or art buyer that wants a top-quality piece in their collection.
The painting has been recently cleaned and was reframed in the UK. It has a hand-made gold leaf inner slip and vintage wood outer frame. This piece is signed in chalk on the reverse of the painting.
It is framed in an Antique and Vintage English gold leaf and wooden frame.
