Wilfrid Bailey (fl. 1940s–1950s) was a British painter whose work focused on the landscapes, wildlife, and rural traditions of northern England. Though not widely known nationally, he was a respected regional artist admired for his careful observation of animals and countryside life. His subjects often included estuaries with wildfowl in flight, hunting and equestrian scenes, and tranquil pastoral views. Bailey worked primarily in oils, employing a naturalistic style that balanced detail with atmospheric light. He had a particular sensitivity for rendering movement — whether in the wings of wild geese over a river or the stance of a horse at rest. His works combine sporting art traditions with a more lyrical sense of landscape painting. While his biography remains fragmentary, records show he was active in the mid-20th century, with paintings dated between the late 1940s and mid-1950s. Auction archives note subjects such as Pendle Forest and Craven Harriers Hunt, The Flight of Mallards over a River Estuary, and several equestrian portraits.
